Yes, it's a very large image, but shrinking it would be doing it a disservice.
I drew this in September 2004 and started coloring it then. I got the figures in the image done, but then the background was left to color. I let myself get totally freaked out by it and gave up. Finally in May I decided that this image deserved more respect than that and finished it up. The background is not great. I was a crazy woman to put all those damn rock in in the first place, let alone color them. However, I think I did a much better job with the various greenery up on the hill and with the sunset and ocean. I saved some of the "in progress" images that I saved so you can see how I put this image together.
First the image was scanned in, cleaned up and each figure was made into a different layer and the background a separate layer. I colored the resulting "wireframes" differently to see what I meant. I then started by laying down background color for everything and started putting shading on Nova first. I then expanded and added shading to Torrent and Stormy and took an initial crack at a sunset (Which was later rejected).
This sketch shows the death of Stormy's parents (yes, those two are her parents - explains alot eh? You'll have to know the back-story for it to make sense how those two managed to have a child together, perhaps I'll actually write it someday...) By various methods they have fallen to their deaths from the cliff above onto the rocky shore below. Stormy was in her mothers arms during the fall and Nova protected her. This is several hours afterward and Stormy has crawled to the side in confusion and distress. In the distance Seadragon's have heard her cries and are gathering to give what assistance they can.
