Ice Princess - Fall 2004

I got the idea for this costume while driving home one august evening from work before school was back in session. I got it in my head exactly what I wanted to have as my halloween costume that year and went straight home and did rough sketches in photoshop. Yes, it's not exactly what you'd greet trick or treaters with, but that's because the idea was to wear it the day before Halloween to a club in Boston. I got the plan all worked out and then the moment I got back to school set to work to make it in my free time. THe dress is made of ice blue satin and lined with some matching posh lining. The snowflake at the center of the dress is actually a cut out. A kind of applique where I sandwiched ice blue chiffon between the shell and the lining and then embroidered the shape of the snowflake. After embroidery I cut out the shell and the lining layer so that all that showed was the chiffon in the center. Looks nice and sparkly with just a hint of being see-through, without actually being see-through. The sleeves are satin on the outside and sparkly chiffon onthe inside so they get some of that crystalline feeling to them.

The original plan was to then wear it with my hair in two curly pig-tails with added blue curly falls. I never got around to ordering the falls because about a month before halloween I realized there was no possible way that I could go out clubbing that night because I had a MUGE exam on that following monday morning. It was very disheartening. Therefore, this dress has actually never been worn out. It's only been worn for the purposes of taking photos. I shall eventually wear it out, I just have to figure out where.

The photos didn't come out spectacularly, a combination of lighting tha day, and the fact that satin is really hard to photograph well. Most of them just show off the outfit, but I got a little silly at one point and decided to pose like a Varga Girl. Would have been easier if I had something like a 1942 chevy to lean on, but it came out decently anyway ^_^
